About Santa's Lost Reindeer

Christmas Eve. A crash in the yard, time stops, and only your child can move. Santa's sleigh is down and his reindeer have run off.

In Santa's Lost Reindeer your child is the one who saves Christmas. Their name and face are in the story and the illustrations, and every choice is theirs: where to search, who to trust, and what to do when a sleeping bear opens one eye.

What happens in the story

Santa's little sleigh has crashed into Grandma and Grandpa's yard. Pepper the elf can fix the broken runner, but without reindeer the sleigh won't fly, and it has to take off by midnight. Otherwise children around the world wake up to nothing under the tree. Three hours. Four runaway reindeer.

The search splits three ways. In the snowy forest: Spark, tangled in thorns, a wolf pup with a trapped paw, and a cave that hides Thunder, the strongest reindeer of them all, right next to a very large bear. In town: carolers who need one more voice, old Mr. Hollis and his Yule log, Mrs. Maple's bakery, and a scared little reindeer named Snowball. Down at the frozen lake: Tricksy, a fox who wants a bribe, and Gale, stuck in a hole in the ice.

What makes this book different

  • What they pick up changes what they can do. Grandma's wool scarf, Santa's Reindeer Compass, a jar of honey, a caroler's handbell, an old lantern. The right item opens a new path, and some get used up, so every choice counts.
  • 67 sections and 10 different endings. Five of them tell how Christmas turned out, from presents arriving late all the way to the Best Christmas Ever, which only happens with all four reindeer and the right things in the backpack.
  • A reason to play again right away. Make it to Christmas without Thunder, and the ending asks: "But can you find the fourth reindeer too?"
  • Wrong turns that teach instead of scare. The "try again" endings are gentle, and each one leaves a lesson: never wake a sleeping bear, calm a scared animal instead of chasing it, and never run on thin ice.
  • Real facts tucked into the magic. Twelve "Did you know?" notes: why NORAD tracks Santa every Christmas Eve, where families hide the Christmas pickle, and how reindeer stay afloat in icy water.

A hero with a kind heart

Nobody wins this one with muscle. Stop to free the wolf pup, and it leads you straight to a lost reindeer. Help Mr. Hollis with his Yule log, and his old lantern lights up a dark barn later. High above a sleeping town, your child can even pass the lucky pickle through a hospital window to Emma, a little girl who has to spend Christmas there. As Santa says: "Reindeer know a kind heart."

A Christmas gift that outlasts the toys

Most toys are forgotten by New Year's. The night your child saved Christmas is a story they keep. A great gift for a son, grandson or godson, to play together on Christmas Eve or on a slow morning over winter break. Written for kids from 7 to 14.

One idea from us: the best ending leaves a tiny silver bell under the tree with your child's name on it. Hide a real one, and hand it over the day they reach that ending.

  • Choices that actually matter

Before you order

The questions parents ask first

Will the hero really look like my child?

You don’t have to take our word for it. Upload a photo and you’ll see your child as the hero before you pay anything. If the hero doesn’t look like them, we’ll redo it. If you’re still not happy, we refund you in full.

Do I have to approve anything?

Yes, and it is the best part of the deal. After you order, we draw two or three sample illustrations with your child in them and put them on your order page within 24 hours. You either approve them, or tell us what to change — we do not finish the book until you are happy. The finished book follows within 2–3 days of your approval.

What kind of photo works best?

Good light, the whole face visible, and the camera more or less straight on. A head-and-shoulders shot of one child beats a group photo taken from across the yard.

What happens to my child’s photo?

It’s used only to create the hero, nothing else. We delete the original photo from our storage once your book is finished. Orders must be placed by a parent or guardian, or with their permission.

How long does it take to create a book?

Ordering takes a couple of minutes: pick a story, upload a photo, and you see your child as the hero right away. Within 24 hours of your order we send you two or three sample illustrations to look at. Once you approve them, the finished book reaches your email within 2–3 days.

What ages are the books for?

Our books are written for children from 7 to 14.
